Ed MuhsI was born and raised in the St Louis area, I joined the Navy when I was seventeen and found my niche on submarines where I was a nuclear power plant operator and electrician. I retired after twenty two years and worked building and working on nuclear power plants around the country.

I have lived all over the states. We moved to The Villages in 1998 as a snow bird and are still being migrational. We spend summers in NY just above Syracuse where we live in our 36ft 5th wheel trailer. I sold the truck so I can no longer tow it, making the roads safer for all. Prior to moving to The Villages, we were full time RV’ers traveling the east coast

My first computer in 1982 was a Franklin Ace 1000, one of the few Apple clones that existed. My interest and collection has grown over the years and I have had most of the Apple and Macintosh models as they came out.

I now have as my personal computer a iMac 27” I7 , 12-GB memory with two internal hard drives and a second 27” Apple monitor, a Mac mini server running as a media center for my TV, an  iPad for my wife, iPhone 4 and a third generation iPod touch.

My Hobby Now

For the past five years I have been collecting, repairing,  and giving away your old computers. I started out fixing a computer up for my granddaughter under the guidance of a previous member Joe Pipala . I enjoyed the mental task of the repairs and even more the joy of giving. I started collecting all that I could. At first I started giving to a school teacher in the Rolling Acres School and after about twenty computers saturating that need. I gave some to church groups and the shelter for battered women, and even one to the special olympics group.

I then found the Devereux for kids, out of Ocala. I started giving to there needs and have continued doing so for the past three years. With many computers, TVs, electronics, microwaves, and furniture. Their needs are not only for computers and has extended to furniture, clothing, and household goods, which has turned my garage into a warehouse at times.

THANK ALL OF YOU FOR GIVING

I also help club members with there Mac problems. I have teardown manuals (pdf’s) for most of the Macintosh computers. Contact me if you need one.
